Hi third graders! I just wanted to let you know that I have been so busy the last couple days taking care of our newborn twin boys! The one on the top is Bryson Michael and the one on the bottom is Tobin James. I will keep you updated with pictures, so keep checking back!

On the first day of school, I try not to talk the entire time about procedures and rules. Kids can't hold it all in their brains anyways, so we do take time to get to know each other and have some fun. The students did so well walking quietly down the hall and following their assembly procedure that they earned a "Frisbee Fight!" During Frisbee Fights, I turn on fun music and we fling foam Frisbees around as a celebration. Each student was also greeted at their seat by a survival goodie bag. Each item in their bag had meaning for a successful year. We discussed what each item meant. Laffy Taffy- We are going to laugh a lot together this year Eraser- We will make mistakes, but that is how we learn. And, if we make a mistake and say something we shouldn't have, we use "I am sorry" as our eraser. Bookmark- We all have a place in this class and we will read many, many books this year. Pencil- We will go on many writing adventures this year, too! Smarties- We will get smarter in many different ways. Stickers- We have to stick together as a class and help each other out. Plah-Doh- We have to be flexible! We gave the kids some time to get to know who they are sitting next to and relax a little as they played with their Play-Doh. Here are some pictures of our Play-Doh time! Hello everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous first week back. It feels so strange to not be there with you, but I know you are in wonderful hands with Mrs. Schmalz!
While you have been busy learning procedures and building a close community in our classroom, I have been staying off my feet as much as possible. I must admit, I did some laundry so that the boys would have something to wear once they are born! The clothes are so tiny! This week, you are going to begin switching with Mrs. Woller's class. It will make the days go by quickly! I hope you have fun with your other teacher. Tell her I said hello! Have a great week. I will post some pictures soon from our first day together. Keep checking back! I wish I could calm all the fears that my new third graders are experiencing as they try to sleep tonight. I know they are so full of questions, excitement, wonders, and worries. I truly hope they feel welcomed from day one and I hope they get some sleep tonight! I also wish that I could start the year out being in the classroom. Unfortunately, I will only be there on the first day of school. Then, my doctor wants me to stay home with my feet up. I will be in constant communication with my long term sub and keep the students and their families updated through this website, including pictures of the babies when they decide to come. I wish I could be two places at once- home with my feet up and later with my babies and at school getting to know my new group of students, but I can't. Happy new year! it is going to be a good one! |
