Half days make for a very short Fall Festival day! It was wonderful to see the kids' costumes and see the excitement on their faces. We did a few activities, had recess and ate our tasty treats while we watched a movie. Thank you to all who contributed to our classroom party!

Last week, Ayonna was an amazing super hero who could be seen with her cape fluttering behind her. We enjoyed learning about her as she shared her beautiful poster.
Greata was super hero of the week last week and wore the cape proudly. She also read the class a wonderful book. Thanks for being SUPER!
Their scripts are written. The portfolios are full and in order. The students practiced and are ready! I love student-led conferences! I enjoy watching the students be in the spotlight as they talk about their reading, their goals, sharing their stories, and discussing their behavior. It is so powerful to hear them say what they are good at and what they need help with. Students are a little nervous, but they are ready! I look forward to talking with the parents and listening in as their children take the lead. Good luck, kids! You got this!
We read the stories Mail for Matty and Dear Juno. After reading both stories, students had to answer a HUGE question- How are Matty and Juno similar? How are they different? They had to use evidence from the stories to support their thinking. Because most students can't just sit down and answer that question, students first filled out a Venn Diagram to gather and organize their thoughts. Many students dug through the stories looking for ways that the main characters are similar and different.
Once students found some examples, they were ready to write two paragraphs- one paragraph showing how Matty and Juno were alike and one showing how they were different. Students then completed a self assessment to make sure they answered the question thoroughly. Hunter wore a big smile and a cape when he was super hero of the week last week. He brought a book to read to the class, too. Thanks, Hunter!
Hunter was a fantastic super hero of the week last week. He wore all the capes throughout the week, designed a cool poster, and has a huge smile on his face!
Daddy/Daughter Engineering Day tomorrow at the Community Services Building in Whitehall from 9-12. They still have around 30 spots available so encourage your girls to go and learn about Science and Math with their dads.
You can sign up online tonight or just show up tomorrow morning. Mrs. Day, the technology teacher, asked the coordinators and they said that would be fine. They will build a robot, work with marshmallows, and create a plane. Sounds great!! This week we have been learning and practicing being O.W.L.S when we read. We read the book Adopted by an Owl as we learned about observing the pictures, wondering about the text as we read, and linking or making connections to our lives or books we have read. Students should always be doing these three things when they read, whether they are reading fiction or non-fiction. We got our paint and chalk out and made some owls to remind us to always be owls when we read. The owls turned out great! |
