Students then talked with kids at their table about their opinions on banning sledding. They had to back up their opinions with reasons from the article.
Next, students filled out a box and bullets paper. Their opinion statement goes in the box and they list their reasons, using parallel structure for each bullet.
They are getting so used to organizing their opinions this way that they are getting very quick at doing it.
Tomorrow, they will be writing a letter to the editor of the Beacon to explain why they are in favor or against the proposal of banning sledding. I told the kids that it was made up, but they had to pretend that Whitehall and Montague are thinking about banning sledding on all city properties.
