We finished up our narrative writing and are about to start our opinion writing,but I wanted to do a quick writing project with the students first. After reading The Best Part of Me, students talked with kids at their table about what they thought was the best part of them. I heard such a variety of parts- thumbs, hearts, feet, eyes, glasses, pacemaker, hair. I was filled with happiness when every students was quickly able to name one or more parts that were their favorite. Students then filled out a graphic organizer and wrote a rough draft of a short piece of writing that explained why it is their favorite part. We edited it, wrote a final copy, and paired it with a black and white picture of their favorite part. They will be hanging in our main hallway soon! |
