One of the many mystery book clubs that we have going in our classroom is reading a book called Chasing Vermeer. In this book, a character is constantly playing with pentominos that he carries around in his pocket. Pentominos are 12 shapes made up of five squares. He uses them to help him solve mysteries. The ultimate pentomino challenge is to use all the pieces, which are shaped like letters, to make a rectangle. It sounds easy, but it is not! There are actually four ways to make a rectangle. you can make a 6x10, a 5x12, a 4x15, or a 3x20. Joli was the first student to successfully make the rectangle. Way to go Joli! She made it at home and then was able to show me at school. |
