Here are a few examples of all the pieces and parts of our informational books and a picture of our bulletin board that shows the many learning targets we had during this unit. Thankfully, we were able to focus on one at at a time, but when put altogether, it is amazing what these kids can do!
I am so excited to read these informational books that the students wrote. They are experts on so many different topics and have worked so hard to teach their readers about their topics. They have worked hard to organize their information into chapters and paragraphs and hove worked hard to make their illustrations useful in the teaching of their topics by creating diagrams and captions for them. Here are a few examples of all the pieces and parts of our informational books and a picture of our bulletin board that shows the many learning targets we had during this unit. Super Paiton to the rescue! Paiton was the super hero of the week, and she is definitely super! She makes sure she is safe, respectful and responsible. Thanks, Paiton!
Our study of apostrophes started with how they are used in contractions. We have been looking at contractions for a couple of weeks now. Students had fun playing contraction memory. Next, we are moving on to the apostrophe's trickier use as ways to show possession. After taking the English Language Arts portion of the M-Step this week, students needed to rest their brains. We read a butterfly book and discussed its sequential text structure, and then we painted or used chalk to create butterflies to hang in the hallway. Our movie for popcorn day was The Flight of the Butterfly. We discussed the three questions for nonfiction- what surprised us (there was a lot!), what did the author assume we already knew, and what confirmed, challenged, or changed our thinking.
Aiden was our super hero last week and SUPER he is! He is often safe, responsible, and respectful, like a true hero is. He wore his cape proudly!
What a beautiful day to visit the animals! We did pass a few lingering snow piles on our way there. So crazy! The kids enjoyed learning about animals, touching the animals, playing some games, and having a snack.
