Students have been busy being detectives themselves as they read their mystery books. Mystery books are wonderful, in that the reader also becomes the detective, trying to solve the case. Students are practicing having conversations in their book clubs. They are so used to talking and sharing their ideas, but it is a skill to listen to others and respond to what they said. Students often share their thoughts, without connecting to what others say. When students meet in their book clubs, they can discuss any sticky notes they left in their books, their Mystery paper where they are keeping track of clues, the victim, the suspects, witnesses, and red herrings, or they can use their mystery bookmarks to get them started on a conversation. |
