We played games, crafted, feasted, and watched Prancer. Such joy! And, we got letters from our pen pals!

Makayla was our super hero a couple weeks ago. She could be seen walking the hallways with her cape billowing out behind her as she was responsible, respectful, and safe. Way to go, Makayla!
Our books that the kids wrote and illustrated came today. IF you ordered one, they are coming home today. If you did not order one, there is one more chance for you to and a note is coming home explaining how. The kids did a great job!
Josh was our super hero a couple of weeks back. He is a responsible, respectful, and safe super hero!
Thank you to everyone who ordered from this recent book order. Because of all the orders, we got a stack of free books for our classroom library. After doing book talks about them, the kids are so excited to read them. Thank you!
Travis was our super hero a few weeks ago. He always has a smile on his face and such a positive attitude!
A couple weeks ago, Robert wore his cape proudly as he was super hero of the week. He can always be found being responsible, respectful, and safe. Thanks, Robert!
Before starting another opinion piece, students were given feedback on their last opinion piece. Students are writing a letter to Mr. Henderson, convincing him to make a change in our school. They could present him with a serious change, like having a therapy dog in school, or they could provide him with a silly change, like having Mountain Dew come out of the drinking fountains. Whatever they choose, they must have two strong reasons that support their thinking. Ask your child what opinion he/she chose to write Mr. Henderson about and see i fhe/she can tell you two strong reasons.
The feedback given will hopefully help the students know what they need to keep doing right and also what they need to do to improve their essays. We will do a few more practice opinion pieces, so students know exactly how to plan for, organize, and write their opinions strongly and clearly. Coming home today is your child's essay, along with the feedback, a letter from me, and an example of third grade expectations. Please take a few minutes to look this over with your child. Please let me know if you have any questions. Recently students learned a new strategy in reading for retelling or summarizing their fiction books. We call it the SWBST strategy and it stands for Somebody Wanted, But, So Then. Have your child practice at home with any fiction book. It can be done orally or written out.
We followed the SWBST strategy when we summarized together Because of Winn Dixie. Then, I read Knuffle Bunny and students practiced summarizing that book in a SWBST Flap book. Here are some examples! |
