The Reading Fluency Data comes from the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills Assessment (DIBELS). This measures their reading fluency and accuracy on grade level texts, whereas the DRA measures fluency at texts that are at their level. At this time of the year, students should be reading 100 words per minute on grade level texts. Many students met their goals or came very close!
Coming home shortly is the students' reading data. Hopefully, you will see growth from the beginning of the year to the end. The reading level of your child is based on his/her Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA). This assessment measures fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. They needed to pass all three of those portions to be at that level. By this time, students should be at a level P.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! What a wonderful group of kids to hang out with all day. The camp counselors led us through many activities related to our curriculum- lumbering, Native Americans, pond study, canoeing, Life in the Woods, and Fur Trade. After reading the book, The Best Part of Me, students decided on what they thought is the best part of them. They used a web to think of all the reasons why that part is their best. Then, they wrote about it. While they were writing, I came around and took a picture of that part of them. The students decided how they wanted that part to be captured best in a picture. They were so creative! These are displayed down the main hallway of our school, and the students have gotten a lot of compliments on them. It is wonderful to walk down the hallway and see everyone's best parts!
