I am so excited to start this new unit with the students. We are starting our unit on writing realistic fiction stories. Finally! After reading so many amazing realistic fiction stories, like Because of Winn Dixie, students will now be able to develop and create their own characters and think of their own problem that their character will face. Such possibilities! Students first completed a Realistic Fiction boot camp, where some hard work and learning took place. Students were introduced to Brain Frames to help organize and plan their writing. They did such a great job creating and filling these out as a class. During this boot camp, we are all writing the same story as we practice realistic fiction elements, like setting, problems, characters, dialogue, etc. First, we use the telling brain frame to get down all of our ideas. Then we use the telling frame to start to put our story in order, filling in a little more detail for each event. Next, we use our sequencing frame to write our story, and add even more details. Soon, students will be practicing using these frames to write a story on their own. I am so excited to read their stories!
Isaiah is our super hero this week. He can be seen walking the halls with his billowing cape behind him. Thanks for being SUPER!
Ww reviewed the goals we made for ourselves awhile back and reflected on how we are doing on them. We discussed all the different kinds of goals readers can have and thought about which ones would challenge us without sucking out the joy of reading. The kids then shared their goals on the Jot Lot. I loved reading through them.
