We have been revising our rough drafts of our personal narratives in class. So far, we have gone back and elaborated by adding more detail and description, so that our stories come to life in our readers' minds. We have went through and made sure we have dialogue and that it is punctuated correctly. We reread our drafts and added time connector phrases that help move our story forward. These are phrases like "a little while later," "a few weeks later," and "the next day." The last thing we are going to revise is our endings. Writers work to write endings well, instead of just slapping a "The End" on the end our stories. To do this, we are going to look at some of our favorite books to see how those authors ended their stories. Many students have been taking their revisions very seriously after they watch me revise my own story. These roughdrafts are getting pretty sloppy with things crossed out and additions written in the margins or between the lines. Publishing will happen soon!
Super Vayda is our super hero who can often be seen wearing a cape and a smile. She's responsible, respectful, and safe. Thanks, Vayda!
We have been studying the characters in our books by paying close attention to things they say and the things they do. We discussed how we want to make meaningful connections by digging deeper into their internal traits (like brave, determined, lazy, kind) rather than focusing on their external traits (like brown haired, a girl). I did a quick check today to see how students were doing with these connections. Since we all are reading different books, books they chose and ones that are at their level, it's best to collect their jots and do a quick assessment that way. Some students are still making connections to external traits, but for the most part, they have it! These responses hit the target- These responses missed the target because they focus on external traits.
Arianna, our super hero last week, is one of the kindest super heroes I know. She is always responsible, respectful, and safe. Thank you, Arianna! What a super hero you are!
With a bunch of new books and our reading goals fresh in our minds, we had a "Read on your pajama" Party on our half day last Friday. There really is nothing better than reading, munching, and talking about books all while being comfy.
We had a fun filled fall festival day. Students rotated to each third grade classroom for either a game, craft, or movement activity. Then we feasted on delicious food. Thank you to all who contributed!
our super hero Collin is one of the kindest super heroes I know! He is safe, respectful, and responsible every day. Thanks, Super Collin!
Thanks to all of you who ordered books from the book order, we received many free books for our classroom, and I didn't even use half of the bonus points for them! The kids are excited to crack these open!
