They seemed to have fun with it. We first brainstormed two different "would you rather" scenarios. Would you rather get $1000 now or $50 a month for the rest of your life? Would you rather be stuck in a dark room with a bat or with a scorpion? We shared our ideas and reasons for our choices and listened to each other.
We then pulled our opinion rubric back out and reminded students what their writing will be scored on and what third grade opinion writing should look like.
