This week students will be working on a book recommendation for their reading homework. We will be sharing these with the class, so that students can add books to their lists of books they want to read. Students were told to tell a little bit about the book, without giving too much away.

We had a great day of dressing up like lumberjacks, eating popcorn, watching The Tale of Despereaux, and writing an opinion paragraph on whether the book or movie was better.
I love getting all these pictures! They make my heart so happy! Way to go kids!
I am sure the dogs and cats are loving getting read too! Way to go Lily, Connor, Ryleigh, and Ian! Caden is reading Scary Stories in the dark. Yikes! Even hover boards can make good reading spots! Way to go Owen! Forts are one of my favorite reading spots. Great idea Wesley!
Just look at those smiles! The best! Bella is getting her reading in when she can! Waiting at an appointment is a perfect time to read! Way to go Bella!
After the students finished reading and discussing their books in their book clubs, they worked on making a foldable that summarized their books. We talked about taking "giant steps" through the book by just telling the big events and leaving out the details. We discussed how most books have somebody that wants something, but something gets in the way, so the character has to do something, and then the problems is solved. Here are a few pictures of the students' foldables. Some of the students are still struggling with capitals and periods, after many reminders, but for the most part, they did a great job on summarizing!
Jerome was our super hero a couple of weeks ago. He is a hero who is responsible, safe, and respectful! Thanks, Jerome!
We read and met with our book clubs all week. We finished our books on Friday. It was great to see students take responsibility for their reading and then having SUPER conversations with their book club. Many found signposts as they read, and I had a lot of kids ask for another book in the series because they enjoyed it so much. Our next unit is non-fiction, as we read about lumbering Michigan and read from non-fiction books that the students choose for their independent reading.
