April is Autism Awareness Month, and although we have already discussed autism earlier in the year, it is a good reminder to revisit it. Because the rate of kids with autism is rising, it is important that students are aware of what it is and how to support, befriend, and handle situations (positive and negative ones) involving kids with autism, either at school or out in the public. We read the book All My Stripes and then followed it with a great discussion. Here is a link to someone reading the book, if you want to hear it for yourself. This class has such a BIG heart! |
I then did a quick check in on how kids are feeling about our classroom and school. Instead of just the day though, I wanted kids to let me know how they are feeling overall about their week. This is coming home today. It may spark a conversation between you and your child. I use these just to check in and to see if there are any issues that may need to be addressed that they are too nervous to tell me about, but feel comfortable writing about it. And, I have to admit, many make me smile as I read that so many students are overall happy and loving life.
