The students were bummed we didn't finish the movie. And, we left off right at the part where the horse has to be sold, and we predicted that the new owner is going to be mean.
Today we started a Disney movie called "Flash." We have discussed that just like when we read books, we should also be an O.W.L when we watch movies. They become more of an experience that way- when we Observe, Wonder, and Link to our lives. The character in "Flash" works so hard to save up for a horse and then his dad had to leave for a job. Many students could relate to the working hard for something, even something that isn't tangible. We talked about how putting forth effort is a life skill. They are going to have to work hard to learn multiplication, to learn to be a better reader, to run a mile in gym, to play a musical instrument. and to learn to drive a car. I loved the funny parts of the movie. Hearing 29 third graders loudly laugh is really music to my ears. They earned this movie by stepping out of their comfort zones yesterday to lead conferences. They worked hard and practiced so they would be well prepared.
