- Sit down at home and talk about what your child would like to see changed in your household (later bedtime, not having to eat vegetables, less chores, playtime before homework, etc)
- While driving, ask your child what problems he/she sees in the community (littering, dogs not on leashes, cutting down trees, etc.)
- After school, ask your child what changes need to be made at school (longer lunch time, three recesses, gym twice a week, pick their seat in the classroom, etc.)
Thank you so much for your help! The more the students think and talk about their opinions, the better they will be prepared to sit down and start writing out their opinions and reasons.
I always love this unit. It puts into perspective again for me the things that matter to third graders, the things they have strong feelings about. They are opinionated!
