In our first station, a woman showed us how they made fires long ago. She even demonstrated with flint and got a fire going right in the room. Students were surprised by how long it took her to get one going and by how much work it took. It didn't look easy! Students also gave a try starting a fire by using friction to make two pieces of wood warm enough to start a fire. They weren't able to get one going, but they sure tried their best and used teamwork to attempt to get a fire going.
