Students also had fun labeling all the nonfiction text features they could find on their article. Tomorrow, they will go on a scavenger hunt through a leveled nonfiction book and find as many nonfiction text features that they can!
Students worked with partners to read a nonfiction article at their reading level and figure out the main idea of the entire article and find at least three details that support the main idea. Many students hit this learning target. The biggest challenge for many kids was to write the main idea as a complete idea. For example they may have written in the main idea box "Michael Jackson" instead of "Michael Jackson was a popular singer." Some students also wrote a detail for the main idea. The main idea is what the whole article is about.
