We all worked on a My "Me" Poster which is going to be turned into a book so that we can get to know each other more.
These last two days we have spent a lot of time getting to know each other, learning our classroom and school procedures, and building our community. It has been wonderful getting to know the students and being able to see them make connections with new faces. After students shared their homework today, it was awesome to see how much we all have in common with one another. We have many students who like horses, play football, earned medals, like to do artwork, like fish and dolphins (we even had a live fish brought back in the homework bag!), love to read, like to write stories, and have family members who are really special. We all worked on a My "Me" Poster which is going to be turned into a book so that we can get to know each other more. We discussed how there are pieces of us that make up who we are and that we are all valuable to our community. Those pieces may look different than other people's pieces, but we are all important. We also read a book called The Important Book. The last page reads, "The important thing about you is that you are you. It is true you were a baby, and you grew, and now you are a child, and you will grow, into a man, or into a woman. But the important thing about you is that You are You! Because I still need to get out permission slips for the web page, I am covering up the students' names, but I wanted to show you what the kids wrote after we read and discussed the story.
