Students are writing a personal narrative today after reading a prompt. It is part of our curriculum that students not only write a personal narrative in long sittings where we work on them step-by-step, like the narratives they shared with you at conferences, but that students can write a personal narrative all in one sitting. It is also part of the third grade curriculum that students respond to a given prompt. They cannot just write about whatever they want to. Some find comfort in this, others struggle to be given a topic.
Today's prompt: write about a time you did something that made you feel good about yourself OR write about a time when someone you know did something that made them feel good about themselves.
During this writing, students will show me that they have met the goal of their learning targets-
- I can write a personal narrative with a good beginning that makes my readers want to read more
- I can zoom in on a seed story with details
- I can use paragraphs when an event changes or a different person speaks
- I can write a good ending that wraps up my story.
- I can use dialog correctly in my story
