Mrs. Woller's class had the opportunity to be taste testers for some possible upcoming food that would be offered in our cafeteria. Cranberries are the harvest of the month this month. We learned a lot of cool facts about cranberries, like how the berries grow for 16 months and have 4 air chambers, and we watched a short video clip about how cranberries are harvested. What a crazy fruit! Students then used all five senses to taste and experience a fresh cranberry and dried cranberries. The students' faces were hilarious as they tasted the tartness of the fresh cranberries. Students then learned a little about quinoa before trying the first recipe with cranberries- Cranappley Chicken with Superpower Quinoa. It was a delicious hit among students! Next, students tried Chicalicious Salad. Yum! Surveys were passed out to get the students' input and to vote on their favorite dish. It was such a fun learning experience! Students were asked to break their fresh cranberries in half to see the white inside of the fruit and the four air chambers, which make the berries float. Eating the fresh, tart fruit! Taste testing requires you to use all 5 senses. Smell the goodness! Two thumbs up from Jordan! Matthew gave it a thumbs up too! Maizie is taking her taste testing job very seriously! Many kids asked if they could have seconds. That's a good sign! The kids got recipes to take home too.
